Learn more about reflexology and what happens during an appointment

What happens in a session?

I'll travel to your home and set up my comfortable Lafuma reclining chair. Before we begin, we'll have a chat about your medical history, lifestyle, and what you're hoping to get from reflexology and complete a short form to help me understand how best to support you.

I'll begin the treatment by applying Songbirds reflexology balm to your feet (or hands) which is 100% natural and work this in with gentle, relaxing massage strokes. The Reflexology treatment then moves to specific reflex points, starting with the right side and then the left. We'll close with soothing strokes on both feet and some deep, restorative breaths to help you gently come back to yourself.

How long is a session?

Reflexology sessions are typically 30 or 60 minutes. I am also happy to offer bespoke times based on your needs.

What should I wear?

You'll be most comfortable in loose, relaxed clothing but i understand most people are rushing from one place to another so really anything is fine. I will need access to your feet (and lower legs up to the knee ideally) so wearing trousers or leggings that can easily roll up works perfectly. If working on the hands clear access to hands and lower arms is required.

What will I feel during a treatment?

That can depend on how you are feeling and any symptom patterns you may be experiencing. You may feel some tingling on your feet or throughout your body, an area may feel sensitive to my touch. These feelings are showing us possible imbalances and releases of blocked energy. Reflexology should never hurt. If anything feels uncomfortable, just let me know and I'll adjust the pressure.

What is reflexology balm?

I use Songbirds balm, which is 100% natural with a waxy consistency that allows just the right amount of glide for effective reflexology work.

My go-to blend is Tea Tree and Mint (spearmint, peppermint, and tea tree essential oils) - cooling, cleansing, and naturally antibacterial. For hormonal support sessions, I use their Balance Blend, which traditionally helps with emotional balance. If you prefer unscented or have sensitivities, I'm happy to use plain balm instead.

Do I need a specific health issue to book Reflexology?

Not at all! Your reason for treatment is completely personal to you. Some people book simply for deep relaxation and time to themselves. Others are seeking support with specific symptoms or conditions. Both are equally valid.

Is Reflexology safe during cancer treatment?

Yes. Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that can safely support you during cancer treatment. I am trained in oncology touch protocols and will adapt the session to your current needs and energy levels. Many clients find it helps manage treatment side effects, reduces anxiety, and provides a nurturing space during a difficult time. I always recommend letting your oncology team know about any complementary therapies you're using.

How often should I have Reflexology?

This is personal to you and your goals. Some clients come weekly for ongoing support, others fortnightly or monthly for maintenance. During cancer treatment, weekly sessions often provide the most benefit. We can discuss what feels right for you during our first session.

What if I’ve hurt my foot or ankle - can I still have Reflexology?

Absolutely! Reflexology isn't just for feet. If you have an injury, wound, or sensitivity on your feet, I can work on your hands instead. The reflex points correspond to the same areas of your body, so you'll receive the same benefits. For example, if you have a sore ankle, I can work on the corresponding wrist point.

Reflexology can't cure illness, but it can ease symptom patterns and support your body's natural ability to heal and rebalance. Common reasons for treatment include headaches, back pain, hormonal imbalances, insomnia, digestive issues, stress, anxiety, and much more.

Can you diagnose illness or issues?

I am not qualified to diagnose any health issues for you. We will discuss any imbalances that appear and I may suggest a referral to another holistic practitioner or medical professional if I think this will be beneficial. Reflexology as a treatment or me as a practitioner can and will never medically diagnose.

Is Reflexology Right for You?

Reflexology is suitable for most people and works beautifully alongside other treatments or therapies. Whether you're navigating a health challenge, managing stress, or simply craving time to rest and restore - reflexology offers a gentle, natural way to support your wellbeing.

If you have specific health concerns (such as deep vein thrombosis, severe foot problems, or are in your first trimester of pregnancy), please let me know when booking so we can discuss how best to support you, or whether it's best to wait.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Not really. Just make sure you've had something to eat and drink beforehand (not a heavy meal though), and try to give yourself a little time after the session to rest and integrate the experience. I'll bring everything needed.

Is there anything I need to do after a session?

The most important thing is to drink plenty of water to support your bodies natural detox and healing. Drinking water is more than just hydration after a session, it’s full body support to get the most benefit from your session. If possible, ease yourself back into your day and avoid alcohol and heavy foods.
